Over the last three weeks, Web Success Team has been attending the Social Media Success Summit 2010. It is a live online conference with some of the world’s leading social media gurus like Guy Kawasaki and Mari Smith. Twitter is a vital tool in marketing a brand. To maximize Twitter effectively, you need to grow your follower list by posting interesting content and tweeting it out several times daily. Getting retweeted is also important, as a single retweet by a user with thousands of followers could significantly expand your reach and readership. Twitter allows you to monitor the comments that are being said about your company and product; allows you to engage with potential customers and create marketing opportunities; is powerful customer service resource for reviewing user needs, gathering feedback and reacting to complaints; and is useful in prospecting to new niche markets.

Facebook Fan Pages are completely indexed by Google, while Facebook Groups are not. This means that you gain more exposure in search engines when people search your keywords. Running contests on Twitter can help businesses go viral and are highly successful in helping companies sell products, offer promotions and generate buzz. Conducting contests on Twitter is FREE and can create awareness and word of mouth advertising around a single product or company. With help from Twitter hashtags and retweets, the marketing of a contest can go viral in a matter of hours. Contests offer several benefits: they excite customers, increase traffic, gain exposure, sell products and can engage customers and prospects because they are fun and offer value
Generate Repeat Business
Location-based awareness services like Foursquare are engaging because they allow customers to “check-in” to the various locations they stop at throughout the day. By offering freebies to customers who “check-in” to a place often enough, Foursquare is a great way to allow customers to rapidly spread the word if they feel the merchants offered them a valuable experience. Foursquare is a great platform to reach a large number of potential customers over time. Another service is Groupon where coupons can be purchased at a fraction of the cost. The end result is a win-win for consumer and business owner. Consumers get a discount and storeowners get new customers and repeat business.
