What Is Content Curation & How it Can Help Market Your Brand

Content curation is the selection of information that’s targeted to a specific target audience. There are many resources to find content: articles, blog posts, videos, and photos. Done correctly, it plays an important role in helping your brand succeed. It’s particularly effective when sharing relevant information with your social network.

We are forever inundated with advertisements, articles, and other noise on the web. When you curate content, you are filtering out irrelevant information. In essence you are helping your audience see only the most relevant updates.

To build trust in your audience, curate interesting news and share it with your social networks. Entice people to read your posts. You don’t have to be the original creator when curating content. You are a facilitator for the sharing of useful information.

Who Are You Talking to?

The more online support you gain from posting relevant information, the more successful your brand will be. By determining what your market is, you can better evaluate the kind of information that will be well received.  After you determine what your focus will be, it’s important that you share pertinent information that has to do with their interests and also relates to your industry. By staying relevant and interesting, people will keep reading your posts.

Choosing the Right Social Media Platform

Various industries use certain social media websites over others, depending on whom they are trying to reach. Figuring out your demographic and choosing the right platform is important if you want your posts to have greater visibility. If your audience consists of a mostly younger demographic, then TikTok or Instagram Stories may be the best ways to engage them online.

If using Twitter, make connections online that will get your brand noticed. It may take time to cultivate influential followers, but if you can get someone with over one hundred thousand followers to mention your company, that’s even better!

Timing Is Key

Most social media gurus will tell you that the timing of your posts is crucial. If you post an article in the middle of the night, chances are that it won’t get much attention. Most people troll the Internet during work hours, so posting information anytime between 9-5PM is preferable. If you want to take it a step further, you can also try posting articles at various times throughout the day and see what time frame invokes the most visitors. Wednesdays are the best days to post, followed by Tuesday and Thursday, then Monday and Fridays.

Become that Single Reliable Source

Posting relevant content in one place diminishes the search, research and education time for your readers. The more neutral content you share, the more your audience see that you are not “trying to sell them” by pushing your products and promoting your services — rather you are out to add value.

Take Advantage of Online Tools

If you continually post the most interesting information, people will trust your company and start to see you as an “expert” in your industry. By taking advantage of tools such as StumbleUpon that takes you to random websites based on your interests, you can discover up and coming trends that even you may not of heard of yet. Also, sign up for RSS feeds and Google alerts so that if something interesting about your industry comes up, you will be the first to know and share it.

Shape Up Your Brand

All of these strategies can help build your brand and drive more traffic to your website so you can expand your company’s reach. Most of us already curate information on a daily basis, we just aren’t aware of it. Becoming aware and strategizing your information sharing agenda, you will be on your way to improving business in no time. The more we share, the more may we get in return.

There used to be a day when you could just throw up a couple of articles at EzineArticles and expect a fair amount of traffic. I’m not going to exaggerate by calling it a floodgate of traffic, truthfully, I never got near that level on any of my EZA articles.-
